Had to share this with you...

This happened yesterday. Our volunteers were making calls for our Giving Day, reaching out to our contacts and asking them to contribute. Here was one exchange:

Volunteer: Hi, I'm volunteering with Nefesh for our 36-hour matched fundraiser. Every tax-deductible dollar you give today will be doubled to support our community. Can you help us?

Contact: You are the fourth charity calling me today. I just can't do any more. I support Israel, my kids school, three local shuls and a hundred other community organizations. I'm not Bill Gates. Enough, I'm sorry. Goodbye.

*** Hang up ****

We understand him. Things are tight. There are so many good causes out there. We can't help everybody.

That is normal. What happened next is amazing.

Two minutes after having the phone slammed down on her, the volunteer sees this same guy's number pop up on her phone. He is calling her back.

She answers. He says:

"Ok fine, here's my credit card number."

The donation he gave wasn't huge. But the feeling behind it was.

That is what our people is all about.

We give because it's the right thing to do.

We give because it really is a good cause.

We give because we give.

We give because we were asked to.  If you have already contributed, thank you!

If not, I'm asking you (not Bill Gates) to give what you can.  We can only do it with your help.

With much thanks and blessings,
Rabbi Moss
